New Year's Resolution or Intention?

At the beginning of each year we are faced with the pressure of needing to have some resolutions lined up for the coming year.

I don't know about you, but for me a resolution comes loaded with the burdens of years past when resolutions were not met, but instead became something to 'carry over' because they were just so unattainable and need to be worked up to.

Instead I prefer intentions as, to me at least, they feel more fluid and energetically lighter - they allow for adjustments along the way and do not carry with them the pressures of needing to conform or live up to others' expectations. To me, intentions are personal calls to action rather than dreams which may or may not be reached.

What's the difference, really?

As I see it, an intention allows you to set personal goals and action steps that can actually be reached if you are being true to yourself. For example, a resolution may be to lose weight - a popular choice, but doesn't really scream supportive and attainable potential, more dread and hopelessness when you realise how big a task it is. An intention on the other hand is gentler, it is supportive and loving once we are brave enough to really write down what is in our hearts, using the same example above, our intention would be to incorporate healthful foods and activities in our day that will lead to a healthier lifestyle with the added bonus of losing weight.

For me, an intention asks for actions steps - it is a daily call to action that I am open to taking in my life, rather than a burden to carry from year to year.

This is just my opinion, but I wanted to share it with you. I'd love to know what your take is on resolution vs. intention.

Love & Blessings,

Vanda xx
